“Get in here!” The Counter is one of those places everyone can find something to eat, pricing is reasonable, and the wait staff is friendly. They offer a separate gluten-free menu (“Gluten-Free? So Can We”) filled with starters, signature burgers, signature bowls, build your own burgers, shakes, beer and wine. I’ve dined here with meat eaters, vegans, kids and ‘older folks’, and everyone enjoyed it. ‘Creative construction… and being inventive’ are part of their mission. Accomplished!
In the last few months, The Counter has slightly altered it’s ‘Build Your Own Burger’ menu now giving you unlimited toppings. Opa to that! They offer gluten-free buns, or you can ‘Build A Bowl’ salad style. Their beef is hormone/antibiotic free, and offer turkey and organic bison as well.
Next you choose your cheese, a sauce, and your unlimited amount of 28 toppings (included) – or – additional premium toppings for $1 per selection (eg. Applewood Smoked Bacon, Chili, Housemade Guacamole).
My friend Karen (who is Vegan) ordered the tasty Grilled Vegetables starter. It’s definitely something to add to my order next time (and a healthier option than the fries) ;o).
The seating is comfy, all locations I’ve been to include a counter bar area in the back, high top tables, and plenty of booths and tables inside and out. They run specials during holidays and sporting events – check the chalkboard!
They offer easy take-out for those days you’d rather enjoy your meal on your own balcony or picnic it. Usually they provide a few ‘take away’ parking spaces in their lots, and it’s a quick ring up at the register.
After I ordered a ‘Build Your Own Burger’ with their 100% natural chicken breast, I realized at pick up it is NOT on their gluten-free menu. Sigh. Apparently the marinade contains ‘something’ glutenous, however the staff did not exactly know what that was, and my question online did not receive a reply. (I did indulge in a bite and didn’t suffer any noticeable consequences as a result, however it’s nothing I will order again until they add it to their gluten-free menu.)
Thanks to The Counter for its locations in nine states (and three countries!). It always brings a smile to see a gluten-friendly familiar sign when you’re on-the-go and looking for a sure thing. AND, they’re now at LAX Terminal 7 for those who travel United Airlines.

Oh no! Were you not able to eat any of it? Looks scrumptuous and very healthy. Love the vege plate. Looks like a winner. The size of the burger looks HUGE 🙂

There always seems to be a glutenous eater near me… my loss, their gain ;o). I wrote to The Counter to inquire about a g-free marinade for the chicken, but still no reply. Their burgers and veggies are really great, so all is well!
