Beautiful San Diego provides a playground of museums, a coast of gorgeous cliffs and beaches, and a bountiful selection of delicious gluten-free meal options. While strolling through Balboa Park in downtown San Diego, I’ve dined at The Prado Lounge at Balboa park on a few occasions, and enjoyed fabulous gluten-free lunches.
What’s not to love about Balboa Park? They offer a beautiful landscape of gardens, architecture, fountains, and museums to peruse at your leisure on any given afternoon. While visiting the Spreckles Organ Pavilion one weekend with mom, we stopped inside The Prado Lounge to enjoy a quick bite. Seating at the Lounge is first come, first served, seat yourself. We were happy to find a spot just inside near the door, enjoying a full view of the lounge, with a welcoming cool breeze, on the warm afternoon.
For my first experience at The Prado Lounge at Balboa Park, I ordered the Farmer’s Mix Salad (sliced almonds, local stone fruit, midnight moon goat cheese, caramel cider vinaigrette) with added grilled chicken. Oh, and a delicious mojito. The lounge menu is ‘lighter’ than the restaurant menu, including soups, salads, flatbreads, skewers, tacos and sliders.
On my second visit to The Prado Lounge, I ordered the Farmer’s Mix Salad with grilled salmon and iced tea. Every bite was tasty! The Prado’s Lounge menu is reasonably priced for the location and ambiance, and the wait staff is attentive and friendly.
Next time I’ll be trying The Prado at Balboa Park‘s restaurant menu, and enjoy dining either in the charming indoor seating or outdoors under the patio. Their lunch and dinner menu‘s are filled with tempting dishes. Unfortunately, their online menu’s do not indicate what items are gluten-free (although to my recollection the Lounge menu on the table did… I’ll have to re-check that and update the post.) Check with your waiter/waitress for gluten-free options. Reservations are recommended for their restaurant.
If you’ve tried The Prado at Balboa Park lounge or restaurant , please share your gluten-free experience!
